First Impressions

Today, one of the more visible sources is Essiac Herbal. This company offers the Essiac formula in combination with a variety of other supplements. Whether you need help for serious conditions (cancer, diabetes, hepatitis C), or lesser challenges (detoxification or even the cleansing needs of your pet) Essiac Herbal claims to be able to deliver. For my interests, I looked at Essiac Herbal Detox Combo. This combination product is designed to remove waste from the liver and the intestines. It consists of the famed Essiac blend along with Super Supplemental – a formula said to enhance immunity and deliver nutrients during detox.

Ingredients

Essiac consists of the following herbs: Wild Turkey Rhubarb Root, Sheep Sorrel, Slippery Elm Bark, Burdock Root, Watercress, Kelp, Red Clover, and Blessed Thistle. Though some of these herbs are rather conventional fare on the health and wellness market, the combination of these particular herbs is something of a novelty.

I like the inclusion of Kelp and Sheep Sorrel. The former is a good source of iodine, which can help the thyroid gland function well and even promote more efficient metabolism. Sheep Sorrel, on the other hand, is a good source of various vitamins and minerals. It might even stimulate the immune system.

Slippery Elm and Burdock are more often associated with cleansing proper. These promote the elimination of wastes and must be widely available in cleansers for a good reason. And though these are all standards on the market, Essiac Herbal says that this formula is special because of its combination. In other words, these herbs are more powerful in this formulation than they would be on their own or in other formulations.

Drawbacks

Despite promising claims and an interesting back-story, Essiac Herbal might not be the best option. It does not offer organic ingredients and its website leaves something to be desired.

Would I Use Essiac Herbal?

I kind of like the idea of Essiac in general, but I’m not that drawn to Essiac Herbal specifically. I’m going to continue to look for a suitable source for Essiac herbs.

Response

Some consumers have complained about the website – that it is inconvenient and unprofessional. I’d agree. And since Essiac Herbal is not the only source of Essiac herbs, there seems to be little reason to put up with this deficiency.
